Pakistan Wins Election for the Non-permanent Seat of UNSC for the Term 2025-2026

Non-permanent Seat

Pakistan has been elected as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the term 2025-2026, receiving overwhelming support in the elections held by the UN General Assembly in New York today.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all members of the UN General Assembly for their confidence in Pakistan and for electing us as a non-permanent member of the Security Council. We are also thankful to the members of the Asia-Pacific Group for endorsing Pakistan’s candidature for the Council.

Elected for the eighth time as a non-permanent member, Pakistan brings to the UN Security Council a wealth of experience and a strong legacy of contributions towards the maintenance of international peace and security.

This is reflected in our strict adherence to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and our extensive involvement in UN peacekeeping and peacebuilding efforts across various regions of the world.

In its upcoming term, Pakistan remains committed to several key objectives. We will pursue just and peaceful resolutions of outstanding and ongoing disputes, and oppose the unilateral and illegal use or threat of use of force.

We will continue to combat terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, and support effective UN peacekeeping, peace enforcement, and peacebuilding efforts.

Additionally, Pakistan aims to contribute effectively towards the resolution of regional and global crises.

Pakistan looks forward to working closely with the other members of the UN Security Council and with the broader UN Membership to uphold the UN Charter.

Our vision is to prevent war and promote peace, foster global prosperity, and promote universal respect for human rights.

We believe that through collaborative efforts, we can achieve a more peaceful and prosperous world.

Our election to the Security Council is a testament to the international community’s recognition of Pakistan’s contributions to global peace and security.

It also underscores our unwavering commitment to multilateralism and our active role in addressing the challenges facing the world today.

As we take on this important responsibility, we reaffirm our dedication to these principles and to making meaningful contributions during our term on the Security Council.
