ISLAMABAD: On Thursday, the British High Commissioner Jane Marriott held a crucial meeting with leaders from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Marriott shared a photo on her social media account, X, depicting her alongside PTI leaders Omar Ayub Khan, Raoof Hassan, and Hamid Khan in Islamabad.
Expressing her pleasure in meeting the PTI leaders, Marriott congratulated Omar Ayub Khan on his appointment as Leader of the Opposition.
She emphasized the importance of collaboration among Members of the National Assembly (MNAs) to address Pakistan’s critical issues, starting with economic reform to ensure the country’s prosperity.
Raoof Hassan, PTI spokesperson, reciprocated Marriott’s sentiment, describing the meeting as an “absolute pleasure.” He noted that they discussed various issues of mutual interest and looked forward to further interactions.
Despite their current positive engagement, Hassan had previously criticized Marriott’s activities in Pakistan, particularly her visit to the Election Commission of Pakistan in September the previous year.
He questioned the appropriateness of engaging with individuals who had been held in contempt of the constitution, likening it to applauding their misdeeds.
Hassan urged Marriott to break away from colonial-era practices and demonstrate sensitivity to public sentiment.
