Asif claims Qureshi to leave PTI after finding alternate

According to Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Shah Mahmood Qureshi, the PTI Vice Chairman who is now incarcerated, is allegedly planning to leave the Imran Khan-led party once he finds a substitute.

Asif’s comment comes in response to accusations that powerful PTI defectors met with Qureshi in Adiala jail and urged him to sever connections with the ousted former prime minister.

However, Zain Qureshi, who is a son of Qureshi has denied that Qureshi will cut ties with Khan or the previous ruling party.

More than 80 PTI leaders and lawmakers have severed ties with the party, attributing their actions to the alleged unrest on May 9, when party members and backers allegedly attacked government and military facilities around the nation.

“Shah Mahmood had told me he wanted to join the PML-N [Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz] when he left the PPP [Pakistan Peoples Party],” the defence minister stated.

Asif claimed that the former foreign minister held a meeting with Nawaz Sharif to discuss this issue.

The federal minister emphasised that there was a challenge to the system in May while talking about the riots that took place on May 9 after the arrest of the former prime minister. “There was a mutiny in May; do they not understand the consequences of rebelling against the army?” he remarked.

He went on to say, “The establishment, politicians, and the public are all in agreement regarding the events of May 9,” highlighting the fact that the state was being attacked at the time.
