The India-Pakistan clash in Kandy was rained out after one innings
ISLAMABAD: The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is contemplating to shift the Asia Cup 2023 Super Four matches to Dambulla due to the potential threat of rain in Colombo.
The Asia Cup 2023, is being jointly hosted by Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The tournament started on September 2 with the match between Pakistan and Nepal in Multan.
Rain marred the intense rivalry clash between India and Pakistan in Kandy, leading to the playing of only a single inning.
The Super Four matches are originally scheduled to take place in Colombo from September 9. However, the weather forecast for Colombo indicates a high chance of rain.
Dambulla, located in Sri Lanka’s central highlands, is a drier city compared to Colombo and is home to the esteemed Singhalese Sports Club (SSC) grounds, considered one of the country’s best cricket venues.
The ACC (Asian Cricket Council) has yet to finalize the venue for the next stage of the tournament. However, there is growing support for moving the games to Dambulla due to the unfavorable weather forecast in Colombo.
The ACC remains hopeful that the weather in Colombo will improve, allowing the Super Four matches to proceed there. Nevertheless, if the weather doesn’t improve, the games are likely to be relocated to Dambulla.
Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman, Najam Sethi, also shared the weather forecast for Colombo for the upcoming week.
The decision regarding the venue for the Super Four matches is expected to be reached in the coming days.
