“An enemy of Yesterday is a friend of today”: Pakistan attaches special importance to its relations with Russia: FM Qureshi

The two Foreign Ministers agreed to make joint efforts to increase the volume of bilateral trade between Pakistan and Russia.

ISLAMABAD (TTI News) – Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi on Monday said Pakistan attaches special importance to its bilateral relations with Russia adding we are committed to promoting bilateral cooperation with Russia in multilateral fields.

Foreign Minister expressed these views while talking to his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov over the phone. The two leaders discussed issues of mutual interest, including bilateral relations and the promotion of cooperation in various fields.

On the occasion Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that bilateral relations were further strengthened with the visit of Russian Foreign Minister to Pakistan, during which we had an opportunity to discuss in detail important regional and global issues.

He said the signing of the supplementary agreement between the two countries on the Pakistan Stream Gas Pipeline Project is a very positive development.

The Foreign Minister said that we look forward to the early launch of this project to promote cooperation in the energy sector. We welcome the lifting of the ban on rice imports from Pakistan by Russia.

The two Foreign Ministers agreed to make joint efforts to increase the volume of bilateral trade between Pakistan and Russia.

FM Qureshi thanked the Russian Foreign Minister for Pakistan s assistance in curbing the spread of Coronavirus. Both ministers agreed to continue consultations on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
