Lahore Railway Station is preparing for a restoration project aimed at bringing back its original historical appearance. Pakistan Railways has joined hands with the Punjab Archaeology Department to preserve the station’s architectural heritage.
The initiative focuses on protecting the building’s historic character while improving its overall appearance. Both departments aim to ensure that renovation work respects the station’s original architectural features.
The restoration discussions gained momentum following a joint visit by senior officials from both departments. Their discussions focused on proposed improvements to selected platforms and the preservation of historical designs.
Platforms 2, 4 and 5 Included in Restoration Plans
Divisional Superintendent Pakistan Railways Lahore Division Inamullah and Chief Architect of the Punjab Archaeology Department Saniya Afzal visited the railway station.
During their visit, the officials reviewed proposed restoration work on platforms 2, 4 and 5. They discussed ways to preserve the platforms’ original architectural features and historical designs.
Moreover, the discussions covered renovation and beautification plans to improve the station’s overall appearance. However, the project will follow archaeological preservation principles to protect its historical character.
This approach aims to balance necessary improvements with the conservation of the station’s architectural identity.
Pakistan Railways Pledges Cooperation
Inamullah assured the Archaeology Department of Pakistan Railways’ full cooperation throughout the restoration project.
He also directed relevant officials to maintain close coordination with the department. This collaboration will help ensure that restoration activities follow heritage preservation requirements.
Furthermore, continued coordination between both departments will support efforts to protect the station’s historical features during renovation.
Senior Railway Officials Attend Inspection
Several senior Pakistan Railways officials also participated in the visit and restoration discussions.
Those attending included:
- Qazi Jawad Ahmed, Deputy Divisional Superintendent Infrastructure.
- M. Nasir, Divisional Electrical Engineer.
- Farhat Abbas Fakhri, Divisional Executive Engineer.
- Nadeem Iqbal Khattak, Divisional Signal and Telecom Engineer.
Their participation highlighted the involvement of different railway departments in the proposed restoration work.
Preserving Lahore Railway Station’s Historical Identity
The planned restoration represents a collaborative effort to protect one of Lahore’s important railway landmarks. By involving the Punjab Archaeology Department, Pakistan Railways aims to retain the station’s original architectural character.
Meanwhile, the proposed improvements could enhance the appearance of platforms 2, 4 and 5. The focus, however, remains on historical preservation rather than changing the station’s architectural identity.
As both departments coordinate their efforts, the restoration initiative aims to give Lahore Railway Station renewed attention while safeguarding its heritage.
