LAHORE: A Lahore Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has sentenced Sukhdeep Singh to five years of rigorous imprisonment in a case involving the recovery of explosive material from his possession. ATC Judge Malik Abid Hussain announced the verdict after prosecution witnesses from the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) recorded their statements before the court.
During the proceedings, prosecutor Mian Tufail presented evidence against Singh and requested the court to award him a sentence under the relevant provisions of the law.
Sukhdeep Singh was produced before the court from prison for the hearing. After announcing the judgment, the court directed authorities to return him to jail to complete his sentence.
According to the CTD, explosives were recovered from Singh during an operation. The department further alleged that he had links with a proscribed organisation and was involved in terrorist activities. The CTD Lahore had registered a case against Singh and subsequently submitted a charge sheet before the anti-terrorism court.
The prosecution presented its evidence and witness testimonies during the trial before the court delivered its decision.
The CTD also stated that Singh had previously followed Christianity before converting to Sikhism. The detail was included in the information presented by the department during the investigation.
The court’s ruling follows the completion of proceedings in the explosives recovery case, with Singh now set to serve the five-year rigorous imprisonment term in jail.
