Pakistani actor Khaqan Shahnawaz has spoken about a disturbing incident he says he witnessed from his balcony.
During a recent podcast with actress Ayesha Omar, Khaqan discussed domestic violence and the challenges women can face in abusive relationships. He recalled standing on his balcony a few days earlier when he noticed two people under a tree in a deserted park area.
The situation appeared unusual, so Khaqan used his phone camera to zoom in. He said he then saw the man allegedly hitting the woman with sticks.
Khaqan Shahnawaz Contacts Police
Khaqan said he began recording the incident because he wanted to keep evidence. He also immediately called emergency police service 15 and shared his location and other details with the operator.
However, he said officers did not initially arrive while he continued watching the situation.
The actor recalled standing there for nearly 50 minutes while recording different moments on his phone.
He said the situation became confusing when the couple later appeared to behave normally. They hugged, ate together and remained with their child.
Khaqan eventually received a call from 15 confirming that police had reached the location. He then helped officers identify the couple.
Woman Allegedly Denies the Incident
According to Khaqan, the woman became angry after learning that he had contacted the police.
He said she accused him of trying to separate her from her husband. She also allegedly denied that anything had happened.
The reaction reportedly left Khaqan shocked. He questioned what could happen if she continued denying the incident before police.
He also wondered whether his attempt to intervene could create further complications for the couple.
Khaqan said the experience stayed with him and highlighted the complicated nature of domestic abuse situations.
His comments come amid renewed discussions about violence against women in Pakistan following the death of 45-year-old Hina Javed in Rawalpindi.
Police reportedly ruled out an initial impression of suicide and registered the case as murder. Her husband and a domestic worker were taken into custody as the investigation continued.
