A policeman lost his life in Karachi on Saturday. Alleged smugglers ran him over with their car during a routine check in Gulshan-i-Maymar.
The 36-year-old constable named Abdul Manan was accompanying his colleagues at the place named Maymar Mor. The group flagged down the suspicious vehicle; however, instead of halting his car, the driver sped up and knocked down the young man, who had to be hospitalized.
Police chase down the suspects quickly.
Other officers immediately chased the car. The suspects also hit the police mobile and damaged it. Still, the police caught both men. They identified them as Agha Jan and Naseem.
The car was full of betel nut, known locally as chalia. It carried a fake number plate. Police say the two men are involved in betel nut smuggling. They have started further investigation.
Family and colleagues mourn the officer.
His funeral prayer was held at DIG East Zone Police Headquarters. The unexpected loss has stunned his colleagues. Many saw it as an alarming sign that underscores the perils faced by policemen daily while on duty.
Such cases demonstrate how risky it is to conduct roadblock checkpoints, particularly when confronting smugglers. Authorities are emphasizing the importance of ensuring maximum safety when conducting such operations.
Moreover, community members were outraged over the audacity of the smugglers. As the investigation progresses, they hope to expose the whole operation involved in the crime.
On behalf of the police force, condolences have been extended to his family. They have praised him as a devoted officer who worked with great bravery. His untimely demise has left behind a bereaved family and colleagues who miss him dearly.
