Case follows court order after complainant alleges repeated cheque dishonours and unsuccessful attempts to recover investment
KARACHI: Police have registered a case against Pakistani television host and actor Sahir Lodhi and his associate Faisal Zia over allegations involving a Rs40 million investment dispute.
Shah Latif Town police registered the case after complainant Naghma Wakeel, a resident of Majeed Colony in Landhi, approached authorities and accused Lodhi and his associate of failing to return her investment.
According to the first information report, Wakeel said a person identified as Faisal Lashkar Wala introduced her to Lodhi. She subsequently allegedly handed Rs40 million to the television personality for investment purposes.
Complainant Alleges Multiple Cheques Bounced
Wakeel claimed Lodhi later returned Rs250,000 and Rs400,000 through separate payments. However, she alleged that a substantial amount remained outstanding.
According to the complaint, Lodhi issued seven cheques under an arrangement to repay the remaining money.
The complainant alleged that she deposited some cheques, including ones reportedly worth Rs8 million and Rs9 million, at a bank branch in Quaidabad on their respective due dates. However, the bank allegedly returned them unpaid.
Furthermore, Wakeel claimed Lodhi later issued another cheque for Rs44 million after she informed him about the dishonoured payments. She alleged that cheque also failed to clear.
Court Intervention Leads to Police Case
Meanwhile, Wakeel alleged that Faisal Zia subsequently issued a Rs20 million cheque after she again sought repayment. The bank allegedly dishonoured that cheque as well.
After several unsuccessful attempts to recover the money, Wakeel approached the District and Sessions Court Malir.
She filed an application under Sections 22-A and 22-B of the Code of Criminal Procedure seeking directions for police action.
Following the courtโs order, Shah Latif Town police registered the case against Lodhi and Zia.
Police have now launched an investigation into the allegations. The claims remain allegations and have not been proven in court.
