Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan will begin its planned march towards Islamabad from Karachi today, with party chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman leading the journey. He will travel with JI Karachi chief and other senior party leaders, while several members are also joining with their families.
Banners have been displayed at Karachi Cantt Railway Station ahead of the departure. The party has also announced a detailed schedule for what it calls the “Super Long March” towards the federal capital.
March Schedule Begins in Karachi
A public gathering will take place at Karachi Cantt before the Rahman Baba Express departs at noon. Participants will receive welcomes at Hyderabad, Tando Adam, Nawabshah and Mehrabpur railway stations during the journey.
The programme also includes a public gathering in Rohri, Sukkur, scheduled for 8pm. On the second day, participants will travel towards Multan aboard the Shalimar Express, with another welcome planned in Ghotki.
JI Continues Protest Over Fuel Prices
The train journey forms part of Jamaat-e-Islami’s wider protests against fuel prices and the petroleum levy. The party has demanded a reduction in the levy following recent increases in petrol and diesel prices.
JI has organised protests across Pakistan since mid-August over the petroleum levy. The party has linked the fuel price increases to energy supply disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz amid the ongoing US-Iran conflict.
The Islamabad march represents another phase of the party’s campaign against rising fuel costs. Meanwhile, party workers and supporters are expected to participate in activities along the planned route.
