US Vice President JD Vance sharply criticized Israeli leaders opposing the US-Iran peace deal. Speaking at a White House briefing on Thursday, Vance urged members of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet to avoid attacking President Donald Trump, describing him as Israel’s strongest international ally.
Vance said Israeli officials should “wake up and smell the reality” as tensions continue to grow between the Trump administration and Netanyahu’s government. He stressed that Trump remains the only world leader strongly supporting Israel while leading the world’s most powerful nation.
Warning to Israeli Leadership
Vance stated that Israel should not alienate its most important ally. He noted that American taxpayers funded and produced nearly two-thirds of the defensive weapons protecting Israel over the past three months. Therefore, he argued that criticizing Washington would weaken Israel’s strategic position.
In an interview with The New York Times, Vance specifically mentioned National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich for opposing the agreement. Moreover, he questioned their long-term strategy, saying military action alone cannot solve every national security challenge.
Trump Calls for Full Ceasefire
Meanwhile, President Trump also criticized Israel’s continued military operations, particularly strikes in Lebanon. He said isolated drone attacks should not trigger large-scale destruction in Beirut. Furthermore, he urged all parties to exercise restraint and support regional stability.
On Thursday, Trump called for a complete ceasefire involving Israel, Lebanon, Hezbollah, and other regional actors. However, Israeli officials have stated that they do not intend to comply with the US-Iran peace agreement, highlighting ongoing differences between Washington and Netanyahu’s government over regional security and military policy.
