Bail Plea Dismissed After Prosecution Objection
An Islamabad court has rejected the post-arrest bail application of YouTuber Razi Tahir in a case linked to controversial social media posts about an alleged meeting involving PTI founder Imran Khan and a former senior figure.
The hearing took place at the District and Sessions Courts Islamabad. Judicial Magistrate Abbas Shah heard arguments from both the prosecution and the defence before dismissing the bail plea.
Prosecutors representing the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency opposed the application. They argued that the investigation was still incomplete and that bail should not be granted at this stage.
Forensic Examination Still Pending
During the hearing, the prosecution informed the court that forensic analysis of Razi Tahir’s mobile phone and other electronic devices was still pending. Prosecutors said these reports were important for the case.
They maintained that investigators needed the forensic findings before completing the inquiry. The prosecution also said the social media content under investigation was linked to sensitive claims regarding an alleged meeting involving Imran Khan.
The defence rejected the prosecution’s position. Razi Tahir’s lawyer argued that investigators had already questioned the YouTuber. The defence said there was no legal reason to keep him in custody further.
The lawyer also told the court that the investigating agency already had possession of Razi Tahir’s mobile phone and social media account. Several higher court judgments were also cited in support of the bail request.
Earlier Physical Remand Approved
The case began after Razi Tahir was arrested following the dismissal of his pre-arrest bail application. He was later produced before the District and Sessions Courts Islamabad.
On June 28, a court handed him over to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency on a two-day physical remand. The agency had requested ten days of custody for the recovery of mobile phones and other electronic devices.
However, the court granted only two days of physical remand. Investigators were directed to produce him again after the completion of the remand period.
The case relates to controversial tweets about an alleged meeting between the PTI founder and a former high-ranking personality. Authorities are investigating whether the online posts violated cybercrime laws.
After hearing both sides in the latest proceedings, the court refused to grant post-arrest bail. The investigation will continue as the agency awaits forensic reports.
