Lawmakers pay tribute to those killed in recent conflicts
TEHRAN: Iranโs Parliament convened in an open session on Tuesday to commemorate those killed during the conflicts that began on June 13, 2025, and February 28, 2026, in a symbolic gathering marked by tributes, national imagery and calls for retaliation. The parliament resumed session almost after five months.
Unlike a routine legislative sitting, the session did not feature a formal agenda. Instead, lawmakers dedicated the proceedings to remembering military personnel and other figures who lost their lives during the two conflicts. The February 2026 war, in particular, was highlighted because it began with an attack in which Iranโs supreme leader was killed.
Inside the parliamentary chamber, large portraits of senior Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commanders who died in the conflicts were displayed along the walls. Members of Parliament also held flags carrying slogans calling for revenge, underscoring the emotional and political significance of the session.
Parliament chamber reflects wartime symbolism
The chamber prominently displayed portraits of the late supreme leader alongside the current supreme leader behind the speakerโs podium. The arrangement reinforced the leadershipโs continuity while honouring those who died during the recent conflicts.
Parliamentarians observed the session in a solemn atmosphere, with the proceedings focusing on remembrance and national unity rather than legislative debate. The symbolic display highlighted the importance Iranian officials continue to place on the events of the two wars and their impact on the country’s political landscape.
Speaker absent from commemorative gathering
Notably, Parliament Speaker Bagher Qalibaf did not attend the special session. No official explanation for his absence was immediately announced during the proceedings.
The gathering reflected the parliamentโs emphasis on commemorating those killed in the conflicts while reiterating messages of resilience and resistance. The prominent display of military imagery and calls for revenge indicated that the legacy of the recent wars continues to shape Iranโs domestic political discourse and public messaging.
The commemorative session concluded without legislative business, serving primarily as a national tribute to those who lost their lives during the conflicts and reaffirming themes of unity, remembrance and continued resolve.
