Iran has warned the United States and Israel against any military action as preparations continue for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s state funeral. Officials said any attack during the mourning period would trigger a strong response. Meanwhile, authorities have increased security ahead of nationwide funeral ceremonies.
Military Issues Warning Before Funeral Ceremonies
Ali Abdollahi, commander of Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, warned against any attack on Iran. He urged the United States and Israel to avoid what he described as a serious miscalculation.
Furthermore, Abdollahi said Iran’s armed forces would respond forcefully to any threat or aggression. His remarks were carried by Iranian state media as funeral preparations intensified.
On Wednesday, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi delivered a similar warning. He said Iran would respond immediately and decisively to any threat against its people or leadership.
The statement followed comments by Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz, who reportedly said Iran’s current Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, was “marked for death.”
Security Tightened During National Mourning
Funeral processions for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will begin in Tehran on July 4. The ceremonies will continue through Qom before concluding with his burial in Mashhad on July 9.
Iranian media reported heightened security measures across the country during the mourning period. Additionally, authorities announced temporary airspace restrictions over several cities, including Tehran and Mashhad.
The head of Iran’s Civil Aviation Organisation said the restrictions would remain in place during the funeral events. Officials expect large crowds to attend ceremonies held across multiple cities.
The warnings come as regional tensions remain high following Khamenei’s death in airstrikes on the first day of the conflict. Authorities have urged vigilance while security forces remain on high alert throughout the funeral period.
