Donald Trump has no justification to deny Iran its nuclear rights, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Sunday, as tensions between the United States and Tehran continue over nuclear policy.
According to the Iranian Student News Agency, Pezeshkian strongly criticized Washingtonโs stance, questioning the legitimacy of US demands. He stated that Trump claims Iran should not exercise its nuclear rights without explaining any wrongdoing, asking who has the authority to strip a nation of its entitlements.
Meanwhile, the dispute highlights ongoing disagreements that have stalled diplomatic progress between the two sides. Iranian officials maintain that their nuclear programme is within their sovereign rights, while the United States continues to push for stricter limitations.
Earlier, Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh emphasized that formal talks cannot proceed until both countries agree on a common framework. He noted that negotiations remain out of reach due to unresolved differences, particularly accusing Washington of adopting a โmaximalistโ approach.
Furthermore, Khatibzadeh stressed that the current gap between the two sides prevents even preliminary engagement, underscoring the depth of the impasse. His remarks suggest that without a shift in positions, diplomatic efforts are unlikely to move forward in the near term.
As tensions persist, the nuclear issue continues to shape relations between Tehran and Washington, raising concerns about regional stability and the future of diplomatic negotiations.
