TEHRAN: Iran has condemned the recent arrests made in the United Arab Emirates, dismissing allegations that the detainees were linked to a plot targeting the country. The reaction follows claims by Abu Dhabi authorities that those held were part of an Iran-associated group planning terrorist activities.
Concerns deepen over disputed allegations
The spokesperson of the Iranian foreign ministry in an official statement stated that the arrests were totally baseless and unjustifiable. He added that the actions taken by UAE’s authorities on “baseless pretexts” would only lead to escalation of tension between the two nations.
Furthermore, Iran was worried about the consequences of this act. According to the officials of Iran, the arrest might create more misunderstandings and worsen the diplomatic relationship. It is pertinent to note that UAE did not release any specific details about the matter.
Call for restraint and legal protections
On its part, Iran called upon the UAE to make sure that all detainees are handled in a dignified manner consistent with international law. According to Baqaei, the Emiratis should uphold the principles of human rights and refrain from what he termed retaliatory actions. The importance of transparency in the process was underscored.
The Iranian statement has not, however, received an instant reaction from the side of the UAE. This has served to further complicate the affair. Experts suggest that the two countries may have to negotiate the issue to avert an escalation of the conflict.
The current situation shows the delicate state of affairs between the regional countries and the necessity for cautious management of such security issues.
