Nearly 50 civilians who were forcibly taken into Ukraine in recent months have returned to Russia following negotiations with Kyiv, Russian presidential human rights commissioner Tatyana Moskalkova said.
Moskalkova previously claimed that Ukrainian forces had forcibly relocated over 1,000 residents from Russia’s Kursk region during their August incursion, which displaced more than 152,000 people.
She released videos of the returnees, including 12 children, though she did not disclose where they would be resettled. Moscow Times published this development today.
Currently, over 30,000 displaced residents from Russian border regions and annexed Ukrainian territories are being housed in 960 temporary shelters across Russia.
Moskalkova acknowledged the support of the International Committee of the Red Cross and Belarus in aiding negotiations. She also credited Russian government agencies and special services for their role in facilitating the civilians’ return.
