Russia Accuses West of Assisting Moscow Attackers

Moscow Attackers

The head of Russia’s FSB security agency, Alexander Bortnikov, made startling accusations on Tuesday, alleging that Western and Ukrainian special services collaborated with the attackers behind the recent assault on a Moscow concert hall, resulting in numerous casualties.

Despite President Vladimir Putin’s acknowledgment of the involvement of “radical Islamists” in the attack, Russia persists in asserting Ukraine’s complicity in the massacre.

Bortnikov, as reported by Russian news agencies, claimed that the assault was orchestrated by radical Islamists with support from Western and Ukrainian special services.

Moreover, he reiterated the Kremlin’s stance that the attackers attempted to escape across the Ukrainian border, a claim dismissed as absurd by Kyiv.

Bortnikov went further, suggesting that the attackers had anticipated a hero’s welcome on the other side of the border, insinuating collusion between the assailants and elements in Ukraine sympathetic to their cause.

While Russia maintains clarity on the organization behind the attack, Bortnikov admitted uncertainty regarding the identity of the mastermind behind the operation.

Despite these assertions, no concrete evidence was provided to support Russia’s claims, and Ukraine vehemently denied any involvement.

Meanwhile, the Islamic State (IS) jihadist group has repeatedly claimed responsibility for the attack since its occurrence.

IS-affiliated media outlets have disseminated graphic videos showcasing the gunmen inside the concert hall.

The conflicting narratives surrounding the attack underscore the complex geopolitical tensions and the ongoing struggle to ascertain the truth amid a web of accusations and denials.
