Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan underwent a medical examination at Adiala jail on Sunday, according to jail sources. A special medical team from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) conducted the check-up inside the prison facility.
Sources said doctors carried out a comprehensive assessment of the former prime minister’s health. The examination included checks of his blood pressure, cholesterol levels and eyesight.
Pims Team Conducts Detailed Examination
According to sources, Dr Arif Khan of Pims led the medical team that examined Imran Khan. Medical staff from the Adiala jail hospital also assisted during the assessment.
Imran Khan, 73, has remained in prison since August 2023. He and his party have described the convictions against him as politically motivated.
Since his removal from office through a no-confidence vote in April 2022, Khan has faced multiple legal cases. These include allegations related to the sale of state gifts and an unlawful marriage case.
Medical Care Remains in Focus
Last month, the Supreme Court directed Adiala jail authorities to transfer Khan to Shifa International Hospital for medical assessment and treatment. However, the government later took him to Pims instead, citing security concerns.
Meanwhile, PTI has announced a nationwide protest and a march towards Islamabad on September 27. The party says the campaign aims to seek the release of its founder and uphold constitutional supremacy.
Separately, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan supported dialogue with the government. However, he said political negotiations have made little progress because of the current atmosphere.
The developments come as legal and political matters surrounding the former prime minister continue to attract national attention.
