Hub Power Company (HUBCO) is preparing to begin local production of BYD vehicles in Pakistan in December 2026. The Sealion 6 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) will become the first model assembled locally.
The company shared the update during an analyst briefing on Tuesday. According to a report by Arif Habib Limited (AHL), management expects local production to strengthen its electric mobility business.
Sealion 6 to Lead Local Assembly
HUBCO plans to begin completely knocked-down (CKD) production of the Sealion 6 in December.
The company is also evaluating additional BYD models, particularly vehicles in the higher-volume B and C segments. This approach will allow it to target different customer groups and expand its presence in Pakistan’s automobile market.
The assembly plant near Karachi will initially have an annual production capacity of 25,000 vehicles. However, the company can expand this capacity to 50,000 units.
BYD Sales Cross 10,000 Units
HUBCO’s electric mobility business has already recorded significant sales activity. Cumulative BYD vehicle sales in Pakistan have exceeded 10,000 units.
The business generated an estimated profit of Rs1.5 billion during the first quarter of FY2027. HUBCO’s share of that profit stood at approximately Rs780 million.
These figures reflect growing activity in the company’s partnership with Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD.
Pakistan’s Auto Industry Awaits Local Production
BYD entered Pakistan’s passenger vehicle market in 2024 through its partnership with Mega Motor Company, an associated company of HUBCO.
The start of local assembly could expand vehicle availability and support the development of Pakistan’s electric mobility sector. It also marks another step in the country’s efforts to attract investment in automobile manufacturing.
