Households across Pakistan will face 16 hours without regular gas supply each day under new winter schedules announced by the country’s two major gas utilities.
Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) have restricted domestic supplies to three daily cooking periods. The new arrangements aim to prioritise household needs during breakfast, lunch and dinner.
New Gas Supply Timings Announced
Under the revised schedule, households will receive gas during the following hours:
- Breakfast: 6:30am to 9:00am
- Lunch: 12:00pm to 2:30pm
- Dinner: 6:00pm to 9:00pm
Together, these periods provide eight hours of gas supply daily. Consequently, consumers will have no regular supply during the remaining 16 hours.
Schedule Applies Across Four Provinces
SNGPL has introduced the timings for domestic consumers in Islamabad, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Meanwhile, SSGC has announced the same schedule for households in Sindh and Balochistan.
Both companies have implemented the arrangements under federal government directives.
An SSGC spokesperson confirmed that the schedule took effect immediately. The company also shared the timings through its website and social media platforms.
Similarly, SNGPL enforced its revised schedule on Wednesday, November 4.
LNG Shortage Adds to Winter Pressure
SNGPL cited declining liquefied natural gas (LNG) availability and rising winter demand as reasons for the restrictions.
The company has also reduced gas supplies to the compressed natural gas (CNG) sector. Furthermore, it has warned that additional restrictions may follow.
Households Face Limited Cooking Hours
The revised schedule means families will need to plan their daily cooking around three fixed supply windows.
Consumers may face difficulties preparing meals outside these periods, particularly during colder months when household gas demand increases.
With both utilities adopting the same timings, domestic consumers across the country will have to adjust their routines to the limited winter supply.
