SHCC Larkana HIV Outbreak Control Operations against Quacks to continue in Larkana Division

KARACHI: Sindh Healthcare Commission (SHCC) entered its 16th week of joint operations and continues to work in collaboration with the District Government under the directives of the provincial health ministry.

On July 23, SHCC formed a joint task force along with law enforcement agencies to conduct targeted operations against illegal healthcare establishments in Larkana Division to combat HIV in identified red zones.

As the operation enters its 5th month, there has been significant improvement in the number of inspection and enforcement visits across the districts, including Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Kamber, Kashmore, and Larkana District.

During this time, the SHCC joint task force conducted approximately 1100 inspections in Larkana Division alone, whereby over 226 illegal quack clinics were sealed as per law, under section U/S 39(G).

Over 427 warning notices were issued to non-compliant healthcare practitioners (HCPs) to complete all legal procedures while over 336 healthcare establishments (HCEs) were found to be in compliance with SHCC Regulations and laws.

In order to increase the scope of operations, the need to collect accurate taluka-wise data from District Health Officers was highlighted as a priority in order to take more robust Inspection and Enforcement (I&E) actions on ‘rampant’ quackery to eventually cut down the recurrence of HIV across the division.

More law enforcement manpower support and collaboration were committed by key stakeholders to increase the momentum of operations against ‘Quacks’.
