The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has unveiled a comprehensive 10-year reform plan aimed at transforming public universities, addressing financial challenges, and ensuring long-term self-sufficiency.
Following his appointment as Chancellor of KP’s universities, Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur initiated the development of this strategic plan to overhaul the higher education sector. The plan is designed to modernize universities across academics, administration, and research, aligning them with current educational needs.
The Chief Minister’s Secretariat has directed the Higher Education Department to prepare a detailed draft within 21 days. This draft will then be presented to the provincial cabinet for official approval as a government document. The letter emphasizes that the strategy should include specific goals, clear timelines, and a robust monitoring system. Additionally, it calls for legal, administrative, and financial reforms to ensure the successful implementation of the plan.
The reform strategy will focus on key areas such as faculty development, financial management, research excellence, governance, and student outcomes. The Higher Education Department has also been instructed to review previous reports and recommendations from committees formed over the years on similar issues.
