Germany is increasing the number of student visas issued to Pakistani applicants as interest in its universities continues to rise. German Ambassador Dr. Ina Lepel confirmed the development during a meeting with journalists in Islamabad on Monday.
Speaking at the National Press Club during its international outreach programme, “Meet the Press,” Lepel acknowledged that growing applications sometimes lead to processing delays. However, she said the German mission was working to simplify procedures and improve efficiency.
Germany remains a preferred destination for Pakistani students because of its universities, research opportunities and welcoming academic environment.
Germany Responds to Rising Demand for Pakistani Student Visas
The increase in student visas reflects growing interest among Pakistani applicants seeking higher education in Germany.
According to Lepel, the rising number of applications has occasionally created delays in processing. Nevertheless, the German mission is working to make procedures simpler and more efficient.
Germany attracts international students through its academic institutions and research opportunities. Its university environment also appeals to Pakistani students considering education abroad.
However, applicants may still experience processing delays as demand continues to grow.
German Ambassador Calls for Stronger Pakistan-Germany Trade Ties
During the meeting, Lepel also highlighted the need to strengthen economic and trade relations between Pakistan and Germany.
She noted that bilateral trade had not achieved the growth both countries expected, despite their longstanding relationship.
“I served in Pakistan in 2017 and have now returned as ambassador, but unfortunately there has not been significant improvement in bilateral trade volume,” she said.
She further emphasised that both countries possess considerable economic potential. Therefore, she called for greater trade, investment and commercial cooperation to deliver mutual benefits.
Lepel Praises Pakistan’s Diplomatic Efforts Over US-Iran Tensions
The ambassador also discussed regional developments and Pakistan’s recent diplomatic initiatives.
She praised Islamabad’s efforts to ease tensions, particularly during the recent standoff between the United States and Iran.
Moreover, Lepel commended Pakistan’s attempts to encourage dialogue and prevent further regional instability.
Her remarks covered three important areas of Pakistan-Germany relations: educational opportunities, economic cooperation and regional diplomacy.
As Germany increases student visa numbers for Pakistanis, both countries also face opportunities to strengthen their wider relationship through trade and investment.
