Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S27 Ultra is reportedly receiving a major camera redesign, and the change could solve a long-standing problem with magnetic accessories. New comparisons with the Apple iPhone 18 Pro and Google Pixel 11 Pro suggest Samsung is moving towards a wider horizontal camera bar instead of its familiar individual camera rings.
The redesigned flagship has appeared in physical dummy comparisons based on leaked CAD files. Although the new look has sparked mixed reactions, it could bring practical improvements.
A New Camera Bar With a Practical Purpose
The Galaxy S27 Ultra reportedly replaces its vertical camera arrangement with a wide horizontal camera bar across the upper rear panel.
The change is not simply about appearance. On previous Galaxy Ultra models, the camera rings could interfere with magnetic wallets and wireless power banks attached through Qi2-compatible cases.
The new arrangement moves all three camera lenses higher up, leaving more space in the middle of the rear panel. This could allow magnetic accessories to sit flat and improve wireless charging alignment.
Samsung May Drop One Camera Sensor
Samsung could also reduce its rear camera setup from four sensors to three.
According to current reports, the Galaxy S27 Ultra may feature a 200MP primary camera, a 50MP ultrawide sensor and a 50MP periscope telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom.
The company may remove the dedicated 10MP 3x telephoto camera. However, Samsung has not confirmed these camera specifications.
How It Compares With Apple and Google
The redesigned camera bar gives the Galaxy S27 Ultra a different appearance alongside its competitors.
The iPhone 18 Pro also features a wide camera platform, while Google’s Pixel 11 Pro uses a horizontal camera visor with lenses sitting flush inside it.
Samsung’s dummy, however, features a two-layer camera bump that still causes some movement when placed on a flat surface.
Expected Launch in 2027
The Galaxy S27 Ultra reportedly retains a 6.9-inch flat display and built-in S Pen slot. Samsung could unveil the Galaxy S27 series in late January or February 2027.
For now, these details remain based on leaks and dummy units rather than official confirmation.
