Motorists will see lower fuel prices from September 24 as the federal government has reduced petrol and high-speed diesel rates.
The Petroleum Division announced the revised ex-depot prices under the country’s petroleum pricing mechanism.
Petrol Price Reduced by Rs1.93
The price of motor spirit, commonly known as petrol, has been reduced by Rs1.93 per litre.
Following the latest adjustment, petrol will cost Rs390.12 per litre, down from the previous price of Rs392.05.
The revised petrol price will take effect from September 24, 2026.
Diesel Price Cut by Rs4.21
High-speed diesel has received a larger price reduction under the latest adjustment.
The government has cut the diesel price by Rs4.21 per litre, bringing it down from Rs418.96 to Rs414.75 per litre.
Like the revised petrol price, the new diesel rate will also come into effect on September 24.
Why Have Fuel Prices Been Reduced?
The Petroleum Division attributed the latest changes to developments in international markets.
According to the division, fluctuations in Platts rates, premiums and other incidentals necessitated the latest adjustments.
The revised rates have therefore been issued under the existing petroleum pricing mechanism.
The Petroleum Division also listed the September 23 petroleum price update among its latest official notifications.
With both petrol and diesel prices now reduced, the revised rates will apply from September 24, marking the latest adjustment under the petroleum pricing mechanism.
