An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Quetta on Monday granted the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) a three-day physical remand of former police surgeon Dr Ayesha Faiz.
Dr Ayesha was produced before Special ATC Judge Muhammad Ali Mubeen after being arrested in connection with a case registered against her. The court approved the CTD’s request for custody to allow further investigation.
Multiple Cases Under Investigation
CTD officials told the court that several cases have been registered against the former police surgeon. Authorities said inquiries are continuing in cases registered with the CTD and the National Commission for Child Rights.
The three-day remand will allow investigators to question Dr Ayesha and examine the allegations against her.
Home Minister Explains Arrest
Balochistan Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Lango said the police action was linked to Dr Ayesha’s alleged statements against the state and state institutions.
Lango rejected reports that her arrest was connected to criticism directed at Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti or the home minister himself.
He said he had no concern about personal criticism. According to Lango, the case relates specifically to alleged statements concerning the state and its institutions.
The home minister maintained that these allegations led the CTD to register a case against Dr Ayesha.
The investigation will continue during her three-day physical remand, after which she is expected to be produced before the court again.
