A coordinated militant attack targeted the residence of Mir Shafiq Mengal in Khuzdar on Wednesday, leaving at least 12 members of his security team dead. Authorities said all 12 attackers were killed after an hours-long gun battle, while Mengal remained safe.
According to preliminary reports, the assault began with two vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) blasts that breached the compound’s perimeter. Officials believe the explosions involved suicide car bombs.
Authorities said 12 militants took part in the operation. Seven attackers entered the compound, while five remained outside to provide cover and secure the surrounding area.
Mengal’s security personnel responded immediately and engaged the attackers. During the exchange, security guards killed all seven militants who entered the compound, including the two suspected suicide bombers.
Security Forces Eliminate Remaining Attackers
Meanwhile, reinforcements from the Quick Response Force arrived at the scene and launched a counter-operation. The responding personnel killed the remaining five militants positioned outside the residence and secured the area.
Officials confirmed that the operation had concluded successfully. However, 12 members of Mengal’s security team lost their lives during the fierce fighting. Authorities said Mengal remained unharmed throughout the attack.
Separately, Pakistan’s military reported that 38 security personnel and four civilians were killed in three major militant attacks across Balochistan during the past four days. Consequently, security forces have intensified operations against insurgent groups operating in the province.
Authorities continue to investigate the Khuzdar attack while strengthening security measures across Balochistan as militant violence remains a significant challenge in the region.
