A Special Court (Central) in Rawalpindi has sentenced two men over their involvement in sending 92 nurses to Saudi Arabia.
The nurses travelled using fake experience certificates, according to the case filed by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). The court announced its verdict on September 23 in the case registered in 2024.
Judge Abdul Rehman Muhammad Arif presided over the proceedings and announced the sentences against the accused.
Key Accused Receives 41-Year Prison Sentence
Ghulam Zulfiqar Ali, also known as Mian Zulfiqar, received a combined sentence of 41 years of rigorous imprisonment.
The court ordered the sentences to run concurrently. Therefore, Zulfiqar will serve the concurrent terms rather than serving each sentence separately.
Alongside the prison sentence, the court ordered Zulfiqar to pay Rs9.2 million in compensation to the 92 affected nurses.
The compensation amounts to Rs100,000 for each affected nurse. The order provides financial compensation to those who were sent to Saudi Arabia using forged documents.
Nurses Deported After Fake Documents Were Discovered
According to the FIA, the 92 nurses travelled to Saudi Arabia with forged experience certificates.
However, Saudi authorities later discovered that the certificates were fake. Consequently, the nurses were deported within a month of their arrival.
The case centred on the use of these forged experience certificates to facilitate the nurses’ travel to Saudi Arabia.
The court’s verdict has now resulted in prison sentences and compensation for the affected nurses.
Accomplice Ghulam Fareed Also Sentenced
The court also sentenced Ghulam Fareed, described as an accomplice in the case, to three years of rigorous imprisonment.
In addition, the court imposed a fine of Rs200,000 on Fareed. However, he was acquitted of several other charges after receiving the benefit of the doubt.
Therefore, the sentences against the two accused differ significantly. Zulfiqar received the 41-year combined sentence, while Fareed received three years.
Rs9.2 Million Compensation Ordered for Nurses
The court directed that the Rs9.2 million compensation ordered against Zulfiqar be deposited with the FIA Islamabad Zone.
The amount will then be distributed among the 92 affected nurses. Each nurse is entitled to Rs100,000 under the compensation order.
The verdict therefore addresses both the criminal charges and the financial impact faced by the nurses involved.
The case highlights the consequences of using forged experience certificates to send nurses abroad. For the affected nurses, the court has ordered compensation following their deportation from Saudi Arabia.
