The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has suspended the registrations of 15 doctors for six months over alleged professional misconduct.
The disciplinary action followed complaints from the Punjab government regarding disruptions to medical services. The cases involved allegations of strikes, negligence and interference with patient care.
Doctors Accused of Disrupting Healthcare Services
The Punjab government referred the cases to the PMDC Disciplinary Committee for review.
The doctors faced allegations of disrupting patient treatment and closing outpatient departments (OPDs). They also allegedly participated in strikes that interrupted healthcare services.
The disciplinary committee reviewed available records and evidence before reaching its decision.
Ten of the 15 doctors appeared before the committee during the proceedings. The remaining five doctors did not appear.
PMDC Sends Decision to Punjab Health Department
Following its review, the PMDC Disciplinary Committee imposed a six-month suspension on all 15 doctors.
The council has also forwarded its decision to the Punjab Health Department. The provincial department will take further action under the relevant procedures.
The suspended doctors are Dr Shoaib Niazi, Dr Salman Haseeb, Dr Arif Aziz, Dr Fakhar Munir Sial, Dr Nadeem Saqib, Dr Wajid Ali, Dr Amir Bashir, Dr Asjad Salman, Dr Arsalan Raza and Dr Sulemain Ghafoor.
The list also includes Dr Usama Bin Saeed, Dr Ahmad Yar, Dr Kashif Saeed, Dr Hamid Arshad and Dr Haseebur Rehman.
Disciplinary Action Over Professional Conduct
The suspensions form part of disciplinary proceedings concerning alleged violations of professional conduct.
The cases also focus on disruptions that affected the delivery of medical services. The PMDC’s decision follows its review of the evidence and proceedings involving the accused doctors.
