KARACHI: Heavy gunfire and an explosion were reported in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar area on Saturday, prompting a large-scale response from law enforcement and emergency services.
According to initial reports, the incident occurred near Gulistan-e-Jauhar Block 5. However, authorities have not yet confirmed the nature or cause of the explosion.
Police teams immediately reached the scene after receiving reports of the incident. Meanwhile, officials have not released any information regarding casualties or injuries.
Rescue 1122 Sindh said it received reports of an explosion near Mosamiat Chowrangi in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. Consequently, the emergency service dispatched rescue teams from its central command and control center.
According to a Rescue 1122 spokesperson, emergency personnel have reached the site and are assessing the situation. Officials said further details will be released after the initial assessment.
Authorities also deployed special security units to the area. These include the Rapid Response Force and police commandos to help secure the scene.
Police have cordoned off the surrounding area as a precaution. Security personnel continue monitoring the location while investigations remain underway.
Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah took notice of the reported explosion and alleged firing. He requested a detailed report on the incident from senior police officials.
The chief minister contacted the Sindh Inspector General of Police and the Additional Inspector General of Karachi. He directed them to ensure an immediate police response and determine the exact nature of the incident.
Meanwhile, Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hasan Lanjar also sought a detailed report from the Additional Inspector General of Karachi. He instructed officials to submit complete information as soon as possible.
Authorities have not confirmed whether the explosion resulted from an accident or a deliberate act. Investigations remain ongoing, and officials are expected to provide further updates as more information becomes available.
