Samina Baig is first woman from Pakistan to climb to top of K2

Samina Baig, a Pakistani climber from the village of Shimshal in Gilgit-Baltistan, is the first Pakistani woman to reach the top of K2.

Samina Baig and her strong team of seven Pakistanis reached the top of K2 at 7:42 this morning (Friday). It is known to be the most dangerous and hardest summit in the world.

At 8,611 metres above sea level, K2 is the second highest peak in the world.

Baig was the first woman from Pakistan to reach the top of Mt. Everest, the tallest mountain in the world, in 2013.

Samina said that she feels lucky to have had the chance to stand on top of K2. She was in charge of the team from Pakistan. Mountain climbers Samina Baig, Eid Muhammad, Bulbul Kari, Ahmed Baig, Rizwan Dad, Waqar Ali, and Akber Hussain Sadpara make up the Pakistani team.
