ISLAMABAD: Sahib Khan has become a social media hero on Wednesday. He is a civilian and an expert in chairlifts who played a key role in the successful rescue of stranded children.

The military’s helicopters launched the rescue operation on Tuesday noon when videos and messages of stranded individuals hit the media.

About eight passengers trapped inside a cable car since early Tuesday morning, in Allai tehsil of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Battagram.

The incident took place in the early hours as six students, a teacher and a local resident were going to school via a chairlift. They became trapped when two cables of the cable car broke.

Local people are operating the cable car to facilitate transportation across rivers. He said that there were no roads or bridges in the vicinity to connect the two sides.

For hours, the cable car dangled amid a deep ravine, encircled by towering mountains and a rocky terrain, situated alongside the Jhangri river.

Initially, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) estimated that the passengers were suspended at an altitude of 1,000 to 2,000 feet. However, after reconnaissance, the ISPR stated that they were stranded at a height of 600 feet.

On Wednesday morning, the SSG Commandos turned into a top trend of the X platform (earlier Twitter). The social media users applauded the bravery of the army officials and the civilians who rescue stranded individuals.

The key focus of a majority of the X users is Sahib Khan, a civilian, who played a vital role in supporting army to complete ground operations successfully.

Social media users also shared several clips and pictures of Sahib Khan and others who participated in the rescue work.

People have demanded of the government to announce award and reward for the civilians who participated in a very risky operation.
