Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan urged US President Donald Trump to continue talks with Iran during a phone call, seeking to reduce tensions.
Erdogan also offered Turkey’s support for diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing further escalation between Washington and Tehran.
Erdogan Discusses Iran and Gaza
The Turkish presidency said Erdogan stressed the importance of diplomacy during the call.
The leaders also discussed bilateral relations, the conflict in Gaza, and regional developments.
Furthermore, Erdogan raised concerns about Israel’s attacks on Palestinians in Gaza. He said the strikes had increased as the second phase of Trump’s Gaza peace plan was expected to begin.
The Turkish leader has repeatedly supported diplomatic efforts to resolve regional conflicts and ease tensions.
Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan Pact Discussed
Erdogan and Trump also discussed a defence agreement signed by Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.
According to the Turkish presidency, Erdogan viewed the agreement as a contribution to regional security and stability.
Meanwhile, the latest call came as the US-Iran peace process faced renewed uncertainty. The 60-day deadline for negotiations expired without a final agreement, while tensions remained high.
Therefore, Erdogan’s appeal for continued dialogue reflects Ankara’s push for diplomacy as regional tensions continue to threaten wider stability.
