Komal Meer Breaks Silence on Body-Shaming and Cosmetic Surgery Rumors

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani actress Komal Meer, known for her powerful performances in dramas like Badshah Begum, Wehshi, Tere Aane Se, and Ae Dil, has swiftly become one of television’s rising stars. But with fame comes the harsh reality of public scrutiny—particularly on social media.

Recently, Komal has found herself at the center of online chatter, with many commenting on her noticeable weight gain. Despite the criticism, she continues to appear confident and radiant, now choosing to speak out in her own words.

In a candid appearance on the podcast Excuse Me, hosted by Ahmed Ali Butt, Komal addressed the rumors with a mix of humor and honesty.

I think everyone is getting cosmetic procedures these days—normal people more than celebrities!” she joked. “I go for facials and see housewives handing over massive bills at aesthetic clinics. But me? I haven’t done anything! People are busy noticing my cheeks but ignoring my double chin,” she added, laughing.

However, the conversation took a serious turn when she called out the fat-shaming she’s faced online.

I don’t understand the fat-shaming. When I was skinny, I got shamed. Now, I’ve gained just 6 kg and it’s a problem again?” she said. “I put on weight for a drama role—something I’ve wanted to do because I’ve been underweight my whole life. The project is delayed now, but I took the character seriously and used it as motivation to eat better.”

Komal emphasized that the change in her appearance was intentional and tied to her professional growth, adding, “This was a role I really wanted to do. And honestly, I’ve been hearing my whole life that I need to gain weight. So I finally did.

With grace and self-awareness, Komal Meer is pushing back against unrealistic beauty expectations—on her own terms.
