People have expressed concerns over an intimate scene involving minors in the movie “Homecoming,” which is currently showing at the Cannes Film Festival.
The French director, Catherine Corsini, acknowledged the issues and pledged to take measures.
She said she intended to work with intimacy coaches and put policies in place to better assist young actors in her upcoming productions.
After discovering that a sequence involving children had been included without obtaining the necessary approval from the authority responsible for safeguarding the welfare of child actors, the French government decided to withdraw funding for the movie.
Corsini – News Conference
In a news conference on Thursday, Corsini said that she would choose differently and seek the advice of professionals to properly prepare actors for any personal sequences if she were in a similar situation again.
Corsini gave her perspective after giving some thought to the circumstance, saying, “I would question myself more.
I may have been overly confident in thinking that my 30- to 35-year career experience made me more knowledgeable than an intimacy coach.
Also, She admitted that looking back, she should have been more alert and focused on making the actresses feel comfortable.
Moreover, Corsini declared that she would put the performers’ comfort and welfare first in such moments.
The plot of the movie “Homecoming” centres around Khedidja, a nanny from Paris played by Aissatou Diallo Sagna, who, along with her teenage children Jessica and Farah, respectively played by Suzy Bemba and Esther Gohourou, moves to Corsica for work.
The family is movingly returning to the island they had to leave because of tragic events after a 15-year absence.
Corsini disclosed that she ultimately made the decision to cut the intimate sequence from the finished product in an interview with Variety magazine on Tuesday.
Her primary motivation was to address concerns and, more importantly, to ease the discomfort of the actors.
Both Esther Gohourou and Harold Orsoni, the two minor actors who played the characters in the scene, have affirmed that they had the option to collaborate with an intimacy coach, but they declined the offer.
Also, At the Cannes Film Festival this year, Corsini is one of seven remarkable female directors vying for the coveted Palme d’Or.
