PESHAWAR: Yar Mohammad is one of the tallest persons in Pakistan, a tribesman from Kurram Agency. He is seven feet and three inches tall.
Yar Mohammad, referred to as Yaroo by those close to him, is 31 years old. He is the son of Niaz Mohammad and belongs to the Mangal tribe from Sateen village in the Kurram tribal district.
Riaz Ahmad from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information department came across Yar Mohammad at the Nadra office in Hayatabad, Peshawar and was astonished how tall he was. The tribesman was polite and friendly with a smile on his face. He readily agreed to be photographed with Riaz Ahmad, adding, people take selfies with him and are keen to strike a conversation with him.
According to Yar Mohammad, his six brothers have a normal height. He said he stopped growing further in height last year after entering into his 30s.
He couldn’t study much and is now running a small business. Still he likes to dress well and travel as much as possible.
Yar Mohammad said he has travelled all over Pakistan and has even been abroad to Dubai, UAE and to Saudi Arabia for performing Umrah. He is now planning to perform Hajj.
Yar Mohammad’s unusual height reminds one of the late Mohammad Alam Channa, who according to the Guinness Book of World Records was the tallest man in the world between 1982 and 1988. He was seven feet and seven inches tall, towering over everyone wherever he went during his journeys in Pakistan and abroad. Hailing from a poor family in Sindh, Channa was suffering from high blood pressure and died on July 2, 1988 due to kidney failure.
