Today is the last date to file tax returns: FBR

FBR spokesman reveals a total of 2,350,000 people had filed their tax returns worth over Rs45 billion.
FBR clarifies that there will be no extension in the date for filing annual income tax returns.
Keeping in view the hardships the FBR faced, it notified a one-time extension of 15 days on September 30.

ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) on Friday clarified that the last date for filing of income tax returns will not be extended beyond today (Friday October 15, 2021).

The spokesperson said as a result of a full-fledged campaign, the results are coming out and people are increasingly submitting their annual income tax returns.

The tax collection body revealed that the number of tax return filers has exceeded 2.3 million.

According to a spokesman, a total of 2,350,000 people had filed their tax returns.

He added that so far, tax worth more than Rs45 billion has been collected along with the statements for the current fiscal year.

FBR official spokesperson reiterated there will be no extension in the date for filing annual income tax returns.

It is pertinent to mention here that the revenue board had mentioned earlier that it would not extend the deadline after September 30, however, extraordinary interest in existing and new taxpayers had put huge pressure on FBR’s IRIS online portal which caused occasional disruptions and adversely affected its functional efficiency.

Keeping in view the unprecedented increase in users of the website and the hardships the FBR faced owing to technical hiccups, it notified a one-time extension of 15 days on September 30 and extended the return filing deadline till October 15, 2021.

However, the FBR had clarified: “It is further reaffirmed that the extension given on September 30 was only because FBR’s IT System got overloaded and since that has been fixed now, no more extension will be allowed beyond October 15, 2021.”
