KARACHI/ISLAMABAD: Karachi’s fishermen accidentally caught a humungous Indo-Pacific sailfish _ a rare fish which is famous as “ghora fish” among the locals.
Ibrahim Hyderi’s Coastal Media Centre said that the fish was 10 feet long and for the first time the fishermen captured a massive species of sailfish by chance.
The fishermen released the fish back into the sea, media center said on Thursday.
Muazzam Khan, the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) Technical Advisor pointed out that the Indo-Pacific sailfish was not an endangered specie and it could be captured across Pakistani waters.
In 2021, fishermen caught 2,200 tonnes of the Indo-Pacific sailfish, but its meat meat is neither tasty nor liked in Pakistan.
Fishermen in Karachi often capture rare species of fish. In November this year, fishermen in Karachi caught a giant croaker fish _ a highly valuable for their air bladders.
