Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has expressed optimism that Pakistan’s mediation efforts between the United States and Iran are moving toward a “positive outcome.” He highlighted that Islamabad’s diplomatic role is helping reduce tensions in the Middle East.
Speaking on the situation, he said Pakistan hopes to achieve lasting peace across the region through continued engagement.
“Positive Outcome” Expected in Ongoing Talks
The defence minister stated that diplomatic channels have made gradual progress in reducing hostility.
“We have slowly moved closer to a positive result in the US-Iran mediation,” the defence czar told Geo News in Sialkot.
He added that Pakistan remains committed to supporting dialogue and preventing further escalation in the region.
High-Level Diplomatic Engagements Continue
According to the defence minister, senior Pakistani leadership has played an active role in ongoing mediation efforts. He noted that the presence of top officials in regional meetings reflects seriousness in diplomatic engagement.
Field Marshal Asim Munir and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi have participated in high-level discussions aimed at supporting de-escalation efforts.
Field Marshal Munir recently visited Tehran as part of Pakistan’s intensified diplomatic push to reduce tensions and encourage negotiations between the United States and Iran.
Pakistan’s Role as a Mediator
Pakistan has emerged as a key mediator in the US-Iran conflict following weeks of heightened regional tensions. Islamabad has been involved in facilitating communication between both sides.
The conflict escalated after coordinated strikes and retaliatory actions across the region, which disrupted trade routes and increased geopolitical instability.
Later, Pakistan helped support a temporary ceasefire and encouraged further diplomatic engagement between the two sides.
Ceasefire Efforts and Continuing Dialogue
Although earlier talks did not result in a permanent agreement, diplomatic engagement continued. Differences remain over key issues, including regional security concerns and strategic disputes.
Despite these challenges, Pakistan has continued to support dialogue and maintain its role as a facilitator in negotiations.
Economic Impact of Regional Conflict
The defence minister also acknowledged the domestic impact of the ongoing regional instability. He said inflation and economic pressure have increased for ordinary citizens.
“We were in a recovery phase, but because of this war our economy has suffered badly,” he said, adding that the recovery process has slowed significantly.
He further noted that Pakistan’s economic stability has been affected by global disruptions linked to the Middle East conflict.
Pakistan continues to position itself as a diplomatic bridge, with officials expressing cautious optimism that ongoing mediation efforts may eventually lead to a broader regional settlement.
