The death toll from the suicide attack on the joint police and army check post in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Tank district has risen to 12, while around 30 people sustained injuries. Authorities have intensified security measures following the deadly assault, which targeted a security checkpoint on the main highway connecting Tank and Dera Ismail Khan.
The incident occurred late Thursday night and triggered a large-scale emergency response. Security forces, rescue teams, and local authorities quickly reached the site. Meanwhile, officials launched a clearance operation and strengthened security across the district.
Suicide Bomber Targeted Joint Security Check Post
According to initial details, a vehicle carrying explosives rammed into the Manjhi Khel joint police and army check post. The impact caused a powerful explosion, which was followed by an exchange of fire.
As rescue operations continued, authorities confirmed that 12 people lost their lives in the attack. The victims included nine army personnel, two police constables, and one employee of the Forestry Department.
In addition, around 30 people were injured during the explosion. Rescue teams shifted several injured victims to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) and the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital in Dera Ismail Khan for medical treatment.
Rescue Operation Continued Throughout the Night
Soon after the blast, police, security personnel, and rescue teams secured the area and began emergency operations. Officials cordoned off the attack site to ensure public safety while conducting a thorough clearance operation.
Furthermore, authorities deployed additional security personnel across the district. They also declared a high alert to prevent any further security threats.
Earlier, District Police Officer (DPO) Tank Abdul Samad said officials could not immediately determine the full extent of casualties and damage. Darkness and the ongoing operation delayed a complete assessment of the situation.
However, authorities stated that they would finalize the damage assessment after fully securing the area.
Governor Seeks Report After Deadly Attack
Following the attack, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi strongly condemned the incident and expressed condolences over the loss of security personnel.
He also sought a detailed report from the relevant authorities regarding the attack. Moreover, he directed officials to ensure the injured receive the best possible medical treatment without delay.
Section 144 Imposed Across Several Areas
In response to the security situation, Deputy Commissioner Tank Jamshed Khan imposed Section 144 in multiple parts of the district.
Under the notification, traffic remains restricted from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm until further orders on roads passing through Dabra, Tank Bypass, Boltonabad, Garha Pathar, Garha Hayat, Ranwal, Manjhi Khel, and Bhagwal.
Additionally, authorities ordered the closure of Ranwal Bazaar during the same hours.
However, the restrictions do not apply to law enforcement agencies, rescue services, ambulances, fire brigades, and other emergency response teams.
Security Measures Remain in Place
Authorities continue monitoring the situation as investigations and security operations remain underway. Meanwhile, officials have maintained heightened security across the district to safeguard the area and support ongoing rescue and law enforcement efforts.
The attack has prompted tighter security arrangements while authorities work to assess the incident fully and maintain public order in the affected region.
