Chinese President Xi Jinping lays out a clear four-point proposal for lasting peace and stability in the Middle East. He shares the ideas during a high-level meeting in Beijing on Tuesday with Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. State media Xinhua reports that Xi stresses practical steps to ease tensions across the region at a time when fragile ceasefires and diplomatic talks remain in focus.
Xi Calls for Respect for Sovereignty and International Law
The proposal starts with firm adherence to peaceful coexistence among all nations. Xi also calls on every country to respect national sovereignty as a basic rule. Moreover, he urges full support for the international rule of law so disputes find fair solutions through dialogue instead of force. As a result, these principles aim to build trust and reduce the risk of new conflicts breaking out.
China Stresses Link Between Development and Security
Moreover, the Chinese leader stresses the necessity to combine efforts in achieving progress and enhancing security within this context. He thinks that the more developed the state is in terms of its economy, the more stable and safe it will be. Hence, he assures his audience about China’s intention to collaborate with the UAE in order to implement the mentioned suggestions. His host, Sheikh Khaled, receives his initiative positively, realizing the benefits of such a collaboration for their further relationship and cooperation in various spheres.
The dialogue takes place during negotiations between the United States and Iran and many other diplomatic initiatives which have been implemented recently by various parties in order to make the situation in the region more peaceful. Therefore, Xi Jinping’s suggestion can be regarded as yet another attempt to contribute to peacekeeping in the area.
