BIGO LIVE and Likee have secured formal registration with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), marking another step in Pakistan’s regulation of social media platforms.
The registration covers both apps under Bigo Service Pakistan (Pvt.) Ltd., the local company behind the platforms. PTA announced the development on Wednesday, November 4, 2026.
Consequently, the registration strengthens the formal relationship between the regulator and the two popular digital platforms. It also brings renewed attention to content moderation and compliance with Pakistani laws.
Registration Falls Under Online Content Rules
PTA completed the registration under the Removal and Blocking of Unlawful Online Content (Procedure, Oversight and Safeguards) Rules, 2021.
These rules require significant social media companies operating in Pakistan to register with the authority. Therefore, registration forms part of the country’s regulatory framework for online platforms.
Moreover, PTA expressed its intention to work more closely with BIGO to improve content moderation and encourage responsible platform use.
The regulator also emphasised the importance of ensuring continued compliance with Pakistani laws. Through this engagement, PTA aims to support a safer and more secure online environment.
PTA described the registration as an important development in its engagement with major social media platforms. It also highlighted the broader goal of improving online safety for users across Pakistan.
BIGO LIVE and Likee Have Registered Before
The latest announcement follows an earlier registration involving the same company and platforms.
BIGO Service Pakistan was among the first companies to register with PTA under the same rules. In January 2022, it received registration certificates for BIGO LIVE, Likee and Snack Video.
However, the latest announcement again places the two apps in focus as Pakistan continues engaging with major digital platforms.
What Does the Registration Mean for Users?
For users, formal registration provides a regulatory channel for addressing complaints and dealing with unlawful online content.
It also creates a framework for engagement between the platforms and Pakistani authorities. Meanwhile, content moderation and responsible use remain key areas of regulatory attention.
Nevertheless, registration does not automatically mean that every piece of content receives approval. Platforms must continue addressing content that violates applicable laws and policies.
The development also comes amid wider scrutiny of social media moderation in Pakistan. TikTok, for instance, removed more than 23 million videos from Pakistan for breaking its rules, highlighting the scale of content enforcement.
Ultimately, BIGO LIVE and Likee’s registration formalises their engagement with PTA. For users, the focus now remains on how effectively the platforms handle complaints, moderate content and uphold local requirements.
