Lahore authorities have announced new safety measures and restrictions ahead of Basant 2027, scheduled for March 12 to 14. The administration will limit kite flying to the three official festival days and take action against those selling prohibited materials.
Officials reached the decisions during a meeting attended by police officers, district administration representatives and members of kite-flying associations.
Kite Flying Limited to Three Days
Under the new arrangements, residents will only be allowed to fly kites during the designated festival dates. Authorities have warned that kite flying outside this period will not be permitted.
The administration has also ordered an immediate crackdown on illegal kite strings and prohibited raw materials. Licensed kite-flying permit holders will be allowed to operate, provided they follow the prescribed regulations.
Safety Measures for Motorcyclists
Authorities have directed relevant departments to launch a campaign for installing safety rods on motorcycles. The measure aims to reduce the risk of injuries caused by dangerous kite strings.
Police and district officials will also ensure security arrangements before, during and after the celebrations.
Lahore Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Ali Ijaz said public safety remained the administration’s priority. He stressed that officials would not allow kite flying outside the approved dates.
Measures to Keep Basant Affordable
Officials also discussed regulating the prices of bamboo and other raw materials used in kite manufacturing. The move aims to keep festival supplies affordable, particularly for lower-income participants.
Meanwhile, DIG Operations Faisal Kamran said police would implement strict security arrangements to support peaceful celebrations.
Authorities Prepare for Basant 2027
The meeting included Waqar Ahmed, an aide to Nawaz Sharif, along with senior police and district administration officials.
The latest decisions form part of Lahore’s preparations for the three-day festival. Authorities aim to preserve Basant’s traditional celebrations while enforcing rules designed to protect residents and visitors.
