Bangladesh continued to dominate Australia after building a commanding 228-run first-innings lead in Darwin.
Bangladesh scored 426 after Australia managed only 198 in their opening innings. Australia then slipped to 111-3 during the third day.
Steven Smith remained unbeaten on 41, while Cameron Green supported him with 18. Bangladesh’s bowlers kept applying pressure throughout the afternoon session.
Hasan Mahmud Strikes Early Against Australia
Hasan Mahmud claimed two wickets to reduce Australia to 51-2 at tea. He dismissed Jake Weatherald and Travis Head after both batsmen chopped deliveries onto their stumps.
Hasan had earlier produced career-best figures of 6-55 in Australia’s first innings. Tajul Islam then dismissed Marnus Labuschagne for 31, leaving Australia struggling at 73-3.
Earlier, Mehidy Hasan Miraz scored a crucial 65 as Bangladesh reached 426. His innings helped Bangladesh extend their lead despite persistent Australian pressure.
Bangladesh Frustrate Hosts With Batting Display
Bangladesh resumed Saturday at 351-6 and eventually batted through 138 overs. Mehidy protected the lower order and frustrated Australia’s tiring bowling attack.
Josh Hazlewood claimed 6-89 and reached 300 Test wickets during Bangladesh’s innings. He later dismissed Mehidy and Ebadot Hossain to complete 301 Test wickets.
Australia also missed several important catches during the morning session. Those errors allowed Bangladesh to strengthen their position further.
Bangladesh are now attempting to win their first Test in Australia. They have failed in their previous two attempts.
