Authorities Suspend Traffic on Key Northern Tourism Route
Authorities in Gilgit-Baltistan have announced the temporary closure of the Babusar Top road for all types of traffic. The restriction will remain in place for three days as officials carry out road improvement and clearance work.
According to police officials, the closure took effect on Sunday and will continue until June 2, 2026. The decision has been made to facilitate the safe removal of snow and debris from the route ahead of the peak summer tourism season.
Babusar Top is one of Pakistanโs most visited mountain destinations and serves as an important gateway for travelers heading towards northern regions.
Snow Removal and Road Widening Work Underway
Officials said road-clearing operations have started at Babusar Top and the Gittidas area. Heavy machinery is being used to remove accumulated snow, rocks, and other obstacles that have affected traffic flow.
The project also aims to widen sections of the road and restore smooth two-way traffic. Authorities believe the improvements will enhance safety and reduce travel disruptions during the busy tourist season.
As part of the closure, all movement between Zero Point, Babusar Top, and Lulusar Lake has been completely suspended.
Officials stressed that the temporary inconvenience is necessary to ensure long-term road safety and accessibility.
Tourists Advised to Use Alternative Routes
Police have advised tourists, transport operators, and local travelers to revise their travel plans and use alternative routes during the closure period.
The advisory comes as thousands of visitors prepare to travel to northern Pakistan during the summer months. Babusar Top remains one of the most popular scenic routes connecting tourists to various destinations across Gilgit-Baltistan.
Authorities have urged travelers to stay updated through official announcements before starting their journeys. Further updates will be issued once road-clearing operations are completed and the route is ready to reopen.
Officials expect the closure to help ensure safer travel conditions for visitors and residents once traffic resumes.
