High-level engagements in Tehran
Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces, met Masoud Pezeshkian in Tehran during his official visit, Iranian media reported on Thursday. The meeting marked a key step in Pakistanโs diplomatic push to stabilize the region.
During the visit, Munir also toured the Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, where Commander Ali Abdollahi welcomed him. Meanwhile, the Pakistani delegation, which included Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, arrived in Tehran on Wednesday and received a formal welcome from Abbas Araghchi.
In addition, Munir held separate meetings with Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. These discussions focused on ongoing diplomatic efforts and regional stability.
Mediation efforts gain momentum
Furthermore, the visit forms part of Pakistanโs broader initiative to turn a two-week ceasefire between Iran and the United States into lasting peace. Pakistan previously hosted direct talks between both sides in Islamabad on April 11, following a ceasefire facilitated by Shehbaz Sharif on April 8.
Notably, Iranian officials indicated that the visit helped narrow differences in key areas, raising hopes for extending the ceasefire and resuming negotiations. At the same time, Pakistan continues to act as a mediator, maintaining close coordination with both parties.
Meanwhile, Donald Trump has publicly praised Munirโs role in these efforts, highlighting his influence in easing tensions. Recent remarks suggest Washington may consider further talks in Pakistan.
Overall, the diplomatic engagements signal cautious progress as stakeholders push for a negotiated end to weeks of conflict and regional instability.
