Pakistani mediator receives Tehran’s position on restoring maritime traffic as Iran reportedly seeks US implementation of key preconditions

TEHRAN: Pakistan’s army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf discussed Tehran’s preconditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz during their meeting, as Pakistan continued efforts to facilitate communication between Iran and the United States.

During the talks, Munir conveyed Washington’s perspective on the continuing dispute and sought Iran’s assessment of a possible way forward. Qalibaf, in turn, outlined Tehran’s position and the conditions Iranian authorities consider necessary before restoring normal navigation through the strategically important waterway.
