Authorities in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) have arrested several members linked to the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) after intercepting them during movement toward Kotli.
According to available official details, police claimed the individuals were carrying weapons and suspected preparations for violent activities.
The arrests have drawn attention as authorities continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Arrests Made During Movement Toward Kotli
According to police sources, the arrests took place at a checkpoint while the group was travelling from Tarsawa to Kotli. Authorities stated that several individuals were taken into custody during the operation.
Police alleged that weapons were being carried by those detained. However, authorities have not publicly shared further operational details or announced additional charges at this stage. The investigation remains ongoing.
Initial Interrogation Leads to Further Claims
According to information shared by police sources, some of those detained allegedly made statements during initial questioning.
Authorities claimed the individuals stated they had worked under Imtiaz Aslam, described as one of the committee’s leaders.
Officials have not released independent verification of those claims.
Police are continuing to examine the statements and circumstances linked to the arrests.
As of now, no additional findings have been officially announced.
Detainee Makes Claims About Committee Activities
One of the detained individuals, identified as Ali, reportedly made statements regarding his association with the committee.
According to police accounts, he said he had remained a member of the organisation for three years.
He further stated:
“But now, I have nothing to do with these people because they mislead the youth in the name of items of daily use such as flour, sugar and electricity, but they had other plans.”
Police also claimed the detainee alleged that participants involved in the sit-in carried both small and large weapons. These claims remain part of the investigation process.
